Job Advertisement: Modeling and Forecasting Specialist
Location: Islamabad
Key Responsibilities
- Develop pathways for low-carbon transition, evaluating the interaction between energy technology shifts, availability of energy finance, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission trajectories.
- Model various pathways towards a just energy transition, particularly focusing on decentralized solarization hybridized with battery energy storage systems.
- Develop robust scenarios that consider carbon pricing and levies, renewable energy and battery storage penetration, transition pathways, and shifts in global climate and energy finance and policies.
- Evaluate the financial and economic parameters of energy projects and their associated climatic and socioenvironmental impacts.
- Quantify the impact of climate change, such as extreme weather and hydrological shifts, on Pakistan’s power sector.
- Aggregate and analyze primary and secondary climate-related and power-related datasets from official sources to facilitate research and analysis
- Manage the preparation and submission of detailed techno-economic and environmental feasibility studies and assessment reports for power projects and associated infrastructure.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including government bodies, energy departments, environmental agencies, and relevant ministries, and present the findings of the studies carried out at PRIED publicly.
- Any other tasks assigned by the management and the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Energy Economics, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, or Climate Science.
- Minimum of 04 years of relevant experience, with a focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, resource conservation, and energy and climate modeling, and prior experience with GIS software for spatial climate analysis.
- In-depth understanding of power sector expansion models and plans used by the government for power sector long-term planning
- Understanding of the IPCC Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) and the 2006 IPCC guidelines.
- Experience with national and international environmental and energy policies and regulations is a plus.
