Job Advertisement: Energy and Climate Finance Analyst
Location: Islamabad
The Policy Research Institute for Equitable Development (PRIED) is seeking a motivated and skilled Energy and Climate Finance Analyst to strengthen our work at the intersection of finance, renewable energy, and climate change.
This role combines financial expertise with a deep understanding of energy transition and climate policy. The successful candidate will conduct financial and policy analysis, track investment flows, and contribute to strategies that accelerate Pakistan’s transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze economic, financial, and policy developments in the renewable energy and climate sectors.
- Conduct financial modelling and cost benefit analysis for energy transition projects.
- Assess financial mechanisms and institutional arrangements driving renewable energy finance at subnational, national, and global scales.
- Produce high-quality research outputs, including discussion papers, policy briefs, and presentations.
- Support urgent policy responses and contribute to advocacy on just energy transition and climate finance.
- Engage with stakeholders including the government, private sector, international donors, and civil society organizations to strengthen evidence-based policy dialogue.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis to inform financing strategies and general research work.
Key Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in international finance, economics, energy/climate finance, or related field. Equivalent professional experience with a strong finance/energy focus may be considered. Professional certifications or knowledge of ESG frameworks are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in energy/climate finance, project finance, sustainable investment, or related areas. Demonstrated experience with renewable energy, climate finance mechanisms, or energy transition projects is preferred.
- Analytical Skills: Strong financial modelling and quantitative analysis skills. Proficiency with data analysis and quantitative tools (Excel, R, Python, or similar).
- Sector Knowledge: Solid understanding of renewable energy markets, global and local climate finance mechanisms (e.g., Green Climate Fund, MDBs, blended finance, carbon markets, green bonds), and policy frameworks (Paris Agreement, UNFCCC, ESG taxonomies).
- Research Writing: Proven ability to draft rigorous research papers, policy briefs, and reports for both technical and policy audiences. Ability to link financial analysis with policy implications.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Strong ability to present complex finance/energy issues to non-expert audiences. Experience engaging with governments, donors, private investors, and international institutions.
- Workstyle: Self-motivated with capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural, fast-moving environments.
